Basseterre, St. Kitts – On Tuesday evening August 18, 2015, members of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga journeyed to the NEMA Conference Room to engage over 30 young adults in the area of organisational development. The session served to kick off the Department of Youth Empowerment’s “Youth Service Training Programme.” Following brief, informative and quite entertaining icebreakers, the 5-member team of Rotarians delved into their interactive presentations on organisational development.

The Rotarians framed their discussions around answering several pertinent questions including:

  • What is an organisation?
  • Why do we need organisations?
  • What are the benefits of an organisation?
  • What is the purpose of an organisation? and
  • How do you start an organisation?
The question topics prompted many questions and comments from the young adults who showed great energy and interest in the various areas.

The team of Rotarians closed out the session by dividing the participants into small groups where they were asked to think about a concern or problem in their communities or an important need not being addressed in their communities that could be solved if a non-profit organisation existed which was dedicated to that issue. They were asked to create this non-profit organisation and give an overview of its objectives, structure etc. The groups presented several awe-inspiring, proposed organisations, which the Rotarians encouraged them to work hard on bringing to fruition in the near future.

Mr Pierre Liburd, senior youth officer, Department of Youth Empowerment, thanked the Rotarians for taking the time to facilitate the session and lauded them for their continued exemplary youth and community development projects and initiatives.
