Basseterre, St. Kitts – When 29 individuals with a passion for service came together, the fruit of their commitment to community upliftment was the creation of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga. Founded February 10, 2003 by Ambassador Fred Lam OBE, a former Rotary 7030 district governor.

Since its founding, the Club has embraced its guiding principle of encouraging and fostering the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise. It has played a major role in empowering and uplifting the nation’s youth and our communities. During its short existence, our Club has demonstrated a strong commitment to service, locally and internationally with a focus on five avenues of service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service and Youth Service.

For 12 years, our Club has sponsored numerous programmes for the nation’s youth and throughout communities around the island. Our programmes have spanned the gamut of computer training with our Computer Assisted Literacy Solutions (CALS) Training Programme for primary students and high schoolers, literacy education through our local and regional spelling bee competitions and our talent search competitions.

Our community service is only matched by our national pride and commitment to celebrating those who have come before us and helped to shape our great nation. Our annual National Heroes Day Luncheon honours residents of the Saddlers Home for the Elderly and the Saddlers community, while our Christmas Hamper Project and the Valentine’s Make-A-Wish Project are reminders that we should not forget our most vulnerable and at-risk in society. We promote safety and healthy lives and families through our Diabetic Foot Care Programme and End Polio Now campaign. We also have participated in coastal clean-up campaigns and much more.

As we celebrate the Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s 12th Anniversary, I encourage our members and the nation to live the Rotary 4-Way Test each and every day:

Of the things we think, say or do:
• Is it the TRUTH?
• Is it FAIR to all concerned?
• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
• Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

We thank the corporate community and the general public for your support of our Club’s initiatives throughout the years and welcome your continued partnerships in the future. We aim to keep our Club a beacon of hope for our youth, our elderly and the vulnerable as we endeavour to improve our society and nation through our Rotary pledge, “Service Above Self.”

HAPPY 12TH BIRTHDAY ROTARY CLUB OF LIAMUIGA!
