Rotary Club of Liamuiga Mobilizes Young Adults in Nevis

Charlestown, Nevis – On Saturday November 21, 2015 members of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga journeyed to the sister island of Nevis where they hosted a Rotary informational meeting with approximately 30 young adults between the ages of 18-30. The meeting held at the Ingle Blackett Conference Room, Nevis Cooperative Credit Union was the initial step towards the formation of the first Rotaract Club on the island of Nevis.
Rotaract, whose name is derived from the expression “Rotary in Action”, is a service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30 who are dedicated to community and international service. As part of the Rotary International family, Rotaractors are expected to provide humanitarian service, promote high ethical standards in their personal and professional lives, encourage peace and goodwill among mankind while at the same time benefitting from professional development and lifelong friendships with the over 300,000 Rotaractors worldwide. The Rotaract Motto is “Fellowship through Service.”
Assistance District Governor Trevor Blake brought greetings from District 7030 Governor Milton Inniss and encouraged the youth in attendance to embrace the opportunities that being a Rotaractor will offer. He highlighted the opportunities to make a difference in their community, to network, to grow professionally, to travel and more.
“Youth Service is an area of focus for Rotary International as we recognize the importance of empowering the youth and young professionals,” said Tuffida Stewart, President of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga. “Our Club feels that a Rotaract Club in Nevis can truly positively impact their youth population and redound to the benefit of the entire island.”
Rotary Club of Liamuiga members engaged the young adults in dynamic, interactive presentations on Rotary International, Rotary Foundation, Rotaract as well as other youth programmes. Visiting, former Rotaractors also gave their experiences on how Rotaract helped in their overall development.
The youth in attendance were enthusiastic throughout the meeting and expressed thanks to the Rotary Club of Liamuiga for considering Nevis, as they feel that most of the youth clubs and programmes are based on St. Kitts. Following the presentations the Rotarians and prospective Rotaractors mingled, ate, drank and enjoyed a lively fellowship.
The Rotary Club of Liamuiga hopes that in early 2016, the island of Nevis will officially launch its first Rotaract Club with over 30 young men and women.
